What is the Roundup® cancer claim?

Roundup® works well as an herbicide, but recent research suggests that there are chemicals in Roundup® weedkiller that may cause cancer.

Roundup® is a lethal weed killer used in businesses and homes. You likely have used a Roundup® product at least once to eliminate weeds in your garden or yard. The product works well as an herbicide, but recent research suggests that there are chemicals in Roundup® weedkiller that may cause cancer.

If you used Roundup® weedkiller and were later diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma or other forms of cancer, you may be entitled to compensation through the Roundup® cancer lawsuits. This review will help you understand everything you need to know about Roundup® claims.

Why are there lawsuits against Roundup® weedkiller?

The Roundup® claim refers to a lawsuit filed against Bayer® and Monsanto® that claims the company’s weed killer causes usersyou to develop cancer. Early claims that Roundup® caused cancer showed that the company that made and sold Monsanto's chemical was negligent in several ways.

Mansanto® initially manufactured Roundup® with glyphosate, a known carcinogen, and failed to conduct proper research to determine if it was safe for consumers. Monsanto® then failed to warn consumers after discovering that the product caused cancer.

In reality, it went much further and tried to change the minds of regulators about what steps to take in response to the negative data and scientists' conclusions about the link between Roundup and cancer.

According to the rules about strict product liability, Bayer®, which bought Monsanto® in 2016 and made the Roundup herbicide, should be fully responsible for everything it makes, sells and gives away.

Some studies claim that Monsanto® changed scientific results that would have shown a link between its product and several cancers.

allegations against roundup®

Monsanto® and Bayer® have been sued by people who say Roundup® gave them cancer. Monsanto® and Bayer® are named as defendants in Roundup® lawsuits, but the real Roundup® victims are the plaintiffs. The goal of the Monsanto Roundup® lawsuits is to get the plaintiff some money and bring the defendants to court.

Chemists made glyphosate at Monsanto, who also used it in Roundup®. Here are a few cases of Roundup mass torts.

  • In August 2018, a landmark trial granted $289 million to a groundskeeper with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
  • In March 2019, a California man who said Roundup caused his non-cancerous Hodgkin's lymphoma was awarded $80 million after a trial.
  • In May 2019, a jury in California gave a couple million after they said that Roundup caused their Non-lymphoma Hodgkin's disease.
  • In June 2020, Bayer agreed to pay more than $10 billion to settle thousands of Roundup lawsuits. A total of $1.25 billion was set aside for people who might have gotten cancer from Roundup. This amount was later raised to $2 billion. However, the judge thought this number was still too low, given the likely number of claims now and in the future.

who has been affected?

Suppose you were exposed to Roundup® at work or home and later got cancer, especially non-lymphoma Hodgkin's and other types of cancer. In that case, you may be able to sue Bayer for a Roundup® Class Action Lawsuit.

A study on the link between cancer and herbicides published in the International Journal of Cancer found that exposure to Roundup for just ten days in one year might double a person's risk of getting NHL.

People who work with the weed killer are often more likely to get sick from their carcinogenic ingredients. This is because more exposure naturally raises the risk. Mostly, cancer caused by Roundup is linked to the following jobs;

  • Landscapers
  • Military
  • Groundskeepers
  • Commercial farmers
  • Surveyors

But you don't have to be a professional herbicide applicator to be dangerously exposed to the chemical. People who used Roundup® to keep their yards and landscaping in good shape were plaintiffs in more than one Roundup® lawsuit.
